How a Bunch of Chickens Became an Oracle Deck

The Chicken Oracle started as doodles on tiny scraps of paper. I'm talkin 2" x 3" pieces. I was in an online mentorship class with the fabulous Connie Solera and needed something to do with my hands so that I could pay attention, (hello ADD). The first chicken was pure impulse. I like chickens, they make me laugh and I enjoy figuring out their personalities. From there it became a ritual. Every meeting one or two more chickens would show up. By the end of the program, I had a whole flock of "ladies" that I had fallen in love with.

I didn't want to lose momentum or let these sketches gather dust, so I asked myself: What I could do with them that would be fun and meaningful? And just like that, The Chicken Oracle was hatched. 

This Ain’t Your Momma’s Oracle Deck

My goal was simple: create an oracle deck that didn't take itself too seriously, but still offered a bit of insight into the everyday chaos of life. Each chicken has her own name, personality and meaning. I imagined my "girls" as 1920s - 1950s Southern women -  the kind who know how to be proper ladies, but have enough spunk to speak their minds whether you asked for it or not.

Inside the accompanying booklet, you will find a lot of sass, southernisms and a touch of humor that borders on the delightfully unhinged. It’s written like you’re getting advice from your feistiest Southern aunt, so put on your best Southern drawl and have fun with it. This is not your momma's oracle deck. This deck is meant to entertain, spark conversation and bring humor to any situation – even the tough ones.

Fair Warning: Nuance Ahead

If you are a broad-scope thinker, some cards might seem repetitive at first glance. They’re not. I’m all about nuance, so while a few cards may appear similar, the wording is intentional. You might have to look closer, think harder, and dig a little deeper to get the full message, but it's there. The subtleties are what makes the guidance meaningful.

As with any oracle deck, I would ask supporters to please use these cards with a big dose of common sense. This deck is intended to be used for entertainment purposes only and not as a substitute for professional advice. I am not responsible for any decisions made or actions taken based on the cards' guidance. You are ultimately responsible for your own life. Make good choices, sugar.
